Are you taking these measures to prevent brittle and flaky nails?

1. Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize!
Help prevent damage to your nails and surrounding skin by making sure to use a good moisturizing hand cream upon waking, throughout the day and definitely before you sleep. Try natural oils too such as almond oil, jojoba oil, and coconut oil.
2. Eat calcium, protein, and biotin-rich foods.
NEVER yo-yo diet ladies & gents. This leads to vitamin deficiencies that can weaken your nails over time. Load up on quality protein sources like fish and lean meats. Dairy products, dark leafy green vegetables, edible soft bone fishes, and calcium fortified foods are also excellent. Swap out any low nutrient junk food with biotin rich foods like eggs, nuts, and a diversity of vegetables can help too.
3. Stay hydrated!
You already know how important water is for your skin but did you know that it can help your nails too? Lack of adequate moisture leads to brittle nails and nails that break or peel easily.
4. Add a nail strengthener to your routine.
There are both prescription and OTC varieties. Feel free to ask our Sassy Nail Techs for suggestions.
5. Get a health checkup.
You're doing all these tips yet your nails are still weak and brittle? Make sure to check in with your doctor to see if there are anything health related that might be causing it. Some conditions that leads to weak nails include anemia/iron deficiency, hypothyroidism, poor circulatory conditions, fungal infections and psoriasis.
That's it! Ultimately, when you take care of your health, your nails will thank you. Drop by our salon to say hi sometime.
